BERLIN – Leading Muslim organizations in Germany Monday condemned the latest attempt to carry out a terrorist attack in Spain, saying there was “no justification” in Islam for terrorism.
A joint statement by the Central Council for Muslims in Germany and the Islamic Council for Germany, referring to the discovery Friday of a bomb on a railway line, said they were “filled with abhorrence for such acts of terror”.
The statement condemned “all forms of terrorism” as “a profound decline of all rules of humanity and reason” and which were contrary to all religious teaching.
The two Islamic organizations said they were dismayed that Muslims were behind terrorist attacks.
“Whoever carries out such bloody acts finds no justification in Islam. Islam forbids murder, hostage-taking, anarchy and terror,” the statement said.
“Anyone who approves, tolerates or covers up such crimes becomes an accomplice. For such perpetrators or accomplices there will be no understanding, no place and no support in our community.”
The organizations said they had already made clear their stance against terrorism and violence following the 11 September 2001 attacks in the United States and the bombings in Spain on 11 March.
They were taking the opportunity of Friday’s bomb find in Spain to make again their position absolutely clear, the statement said.
