German champions raise funds for tsunami victims

10 January 2005

BREMEN – German champions Werder Bremen on Monday said that they would donate EUR 100,000 to a charity aiding the victims of the tsunami catastrophe in Southeast Asia.
The club said that a signed national team jersey of captain Frank Baumann and one of striker Miroslav Klose, as well as a limited- edition club jersey signed by the entire team would be auctioned.

Bremen players, as well as the club, would contribute the difference between the money raised by the auction and EUR 100,000, which would then be donated to a children’s charity called “Ein Herz für Kinder”.

Baumann said that the players were happy to be able to contribute something. “The suffering and the need of people in the region is unimaginable. Every person should do whatever they can to alleviate the situation in Southeast Asia.”
