Vietnam Airlines plans Frankfurt route

10 March 2004

HANOI – Vietnam’s national carrier Vietnam Airlines is planning a direct flight this year to Frankfurt, Germany, an official said.

“The plan is underway and if it goes smoothly, we hope to open a direct flight between either Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City and Frankfurt as early as the start of the fourth quarter of this year,” said airline spokesman Nguyen The Cuong.

Currently, there are two flights a week from Hanoi to Frankfurt, which stopover in Moscow. One more flight per week will be added to the route originating in Ho Chi Minh City from the start of April to serve an increasing number of passengers to and from Germany, said Cuong.

The direct flight, which would take around 14 to 15 hours, would save passengers four to five hours, said Cuong. It would mark Vietnam Airlines’ second direct flight from Vietnam to Europe, he said.
