Schwarzenegger to visit US troops in Germany

30 April 2004

HAMBURG – California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger will visit troops from his state stationed at Ramstein Air Base in Germany Monday after completing a trip to Israel this weekend, an official confirmed Friday.

Due to security concerns, few details were disclosed about the visit, which will extend Schwarzenegger’s first foreign trip since he took office in November.

A Ramstein Air Base spokeswoman confirmed the visit will take place Monday, but declined to specify a time. She said no public appearance or news conference was being scheduled.

The governor will visit Tel Aviv and Jerusalem on Saturday and Sunday to meet people who do business in California, to drum up more business for the state and to take part in a groundbreaking for the Simon Wiesenthal Center’s new Museum of Tolerance, his office announced.

He is visiting Israel at a tense time. The US Department of State issued an updated warning Wednesday urging Americans to delay trips to the Jewish state, citing threats against US interests.
