German output gains momentum

13 January 2004

BERLIN – In the latest sign that the German economy is emerging from three years of stagnation, Berlin said that industrial production posted a solid 1.3 percent rise in November from October.

It was the send consecutive monthly rise in production and followed a 2.8 percent jump in industrial performance in October.

The November rise in production beat analysts forecasts, who had been predicting a more modest 0.6 per cent increase.

For the two-month period of October-November, output was 1.3 per cent higher than in the same timeframe of 2002, the ministry said.
