PRAGUE – Justice chiefs for Germany and the Czech Republic have determined that child prostitution is not a serious problem along their mutual border, a report said Tuesday.
German Minister of Justice Brigitte Zypries and her Czech counterpart Karel Cermak reached the conclusion after talks in Prague, the Mlada fronta Dnes newspaper said.
“Three years ago we felt this problem was far more serious,” Zypries said.
Last year a United Nations-sponsored report by the German humanitarian group Karo accused the Czech government of ignoring child prostitution on its side of the border, which is frequented by German sex tourists.
But neither Cermak’s ministry nor Czech police who raided brothels last fall found evidence of the problem except in isolated cases.
