FRANKFURT – Germany’s first duty free shop for arriving visitors opened at Frankfurt airport on Wednesday.
Incoming passengers can purchase spirits, perfume and confectionery on production of their boarding card stubs, according to airport operator Fraport.
Duty-free cigarettes will not be available at the shop, which is open from 6:30 a.m. until 10 p.m. seven days a week.
Frankfurt, Germany’s largest airport, already has 17 shops selling duty free or low price items to departing passengers.
The new service for incoming passengers follows the imposition of a ban on fluids in hand luggage on certain flights to the United States and from London.
Duty free operators had feared the new security restrictions would cut into their sales.
