BERLIN – Former communist East German leader Erich Honecker’s yacht, complete with bullet-proof glass and bugging devices in every cabin, has been put up for sale, a report said on Tuesday.
The ‘Ostseeland’, a 61-metre former East German minesweeper converted into the communist ruler’s luxury vessel for tours on the Baltic Sea, is priced at EUR 500,000, said the tabloid newspaper Bild.
Among guests entertained on the ship was Cuban leader Fidel Castro, who was a frequent visitor to East Germany.
Honecker was forced to resign in 1989, shortly before the hardline East German state collapsed. He died in exile in Chile in 1994.
