LONDON – A brochure outlining ways to behave during summer’s World Cup in Germany urges English fans not to sing the World War II song ‘Ten German Bombers’.
The brochure published in co-operation by the English government, the English FA and fan clubs, is to be handed out free to fans to give them tips on how to behave in Germany.
The publication, with a print run of 100,000, also lists important phrases in German, including translation of chants like ‘referee we know where your car is parked’. It also gives fans sightseeing tips.
The English government is expecting 100,000 English fans to make the trip to Germany for the 9 June – 9 July finals.
On the opening pages England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson urges fans not to over-dramatise the traditional England-Germany rivalry and fans are told not to sing World War II songs like ‘Ten German Bombers’.
The song, that was sung when Luftwaffe planes were shot down, has been sung by English fans at previous tournaments.
