‘Cow driver’s licence’ for tourists

17 February 2004

WUERZBURG – Tourists in Germany’s southern state of Bavaria can tap into their pre-automobile roots by learning how to drive a team of cows hitched to a wagon.

Under plans announced by the Wuerzburg tourism office, visitors to the nearby town of Creglingen will be offered instructions leading to the acquisition of a “cow driver’s licence”.

Course participants will learn how to hitch up a team of cows to a wagon, then master the commands to drive the wagon left, right, forwards and backwards. After the theoretical training will be the final test of driving a cow-powered wagon around a course.
