Police search for asylum seekers

20 April 2007

BRUSSELS – As of 6 pm last night police were still on the lookout for four people who escaped from a closed asylum centre in Vottem.

The individuals come from Morocco, Serbia and Albania. One of them has been known to commit theft and forgery. Six people escaped yesterday at about 4 pm by cutting through the outer fence with pliers.

It is not known where the asylum-seekers got the pliers from. Two of those who escaped were picked up on the motorway not far from Vottem.

The police managed to locate the four others, who were on their way to Liege, but later lost track of them. The search continues.
