Man dies after being run over by two trams in Brussels

An enquiry has been opened after the drivers of both trams said they had noticed nothing after the incidents on Thursday evening.
It was only when a third tram approached that the alarm was raised, by which time the victim was rushed in critical condition to hospital, where he died later.
It took some 45 minutes from when the first accident took place to when the third tram driver spotted the dying man on the track in front of him, according to police.
Anne Van Hamme, spokeswoman for the tram company, STIB, said she was unable to comment on the tragedy as the public prosecutor had opened an enquiry.
"The police and the prosecutor have to do their work to discover how events unfurled," she added.
