Hof van Cleve still the best

BRUSSELS – The new edition of the French culinary guide Gault-Millau has again ranked the restaurant Hof van Cleve in Kruishoutem (East Flanders) as the best eatery in the land.

Each year the guide publishes a list of the most appetising restaurants in the Benelux. Comme Chez Soi and Sea Grill, both in Brussels, share second place.

The Gault-Millau names Danny Horseele of the Zeebrugge restaurant ‘t Molentje as Chef of the Year.

Horseele is awarded 18 points out of a possible 20 as well as three chef’s hats.

Peter Goossens’s Hof van Cleve in Kruishoutem received the highest marks (19.5) for the fifth year in a row.

A great culinary talent
The guide describes Danny Horsele as “a great culinary talent” and a “brilliant teacher” at the head of the young team in ‘t Molentje.

With his feet in the water – Zeebrugge is a coastal resort – he goes in search of the best that the sea has to offer.

He gets the best vegetables from the surrounding countryside and also has an eye for game.

Once at home he turns all these elements into memorable eating moments.

The Gault-Millau also has a new managing director in the Benelux: Marc Declerck, the former CEO of Delhaize.

Kobe Desraumalts of In de Wulf in Dranouter (West Flanders) is Young Chef of the Year – Flanders.

Kasteel van Rullingen in Borgloon in Limburg gets the award for best terrace, La Botte in Genk (Limburg) is the best Italian eatery and Oriental Delight in Antwerp is Asian of the Year.
