Doctor’s helicopter crashes near Bruges

24 November 2008

Three people, a doctor, nurse and pilot were on board at the time, but only the pilot sustained slight injuries.

The small two engine helicopter was flying at low altitude from Bruges (West Flanders) to the seaside resort of Wenduine.

The four-seater chopper is badly damaged.

The helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing due to heavy snowfall.

In the course of Sunday a snow front crossed Belgium from West to East even leaving snow on the ground at Ostend on the coast.

Snow showers led to heavy traffic disruption in many places.

A spate of accidents occurred and the situation on the roads was precarious across the country.

Charleroi Airport was forced to close, but there are no major problems at Brussels Airport in Zaventem (Flemish Brabant).
