LOMMEL – A 15-year-old Belgian boy drowned in the fishing pond on the premises of Center Parcs Vossemeren in Lommel on Tuesday. The boy was from the town of Beveren-Waas in Oost-Vlaanderen.
“The boy left to go fishing on Tuesday morning and neighbours of the family found the boy in the shallow water of the of the pond. He lay face down on the edge of the pond, with his hooks nearby,” says interim general manager of Center Parcs Lommel Mark Giethoorn.
The local police say they have ruled out any foul play. The victim presumably became unwell and fell forward into the water. He was brought to the hospital by emergency services but nothing could be done. He died at about 11.15 am.
The boy was staying at the holiday park in Lommel with his parents and sister.
