Boy drowns at Belgian coast

12 August 2008

BELGIUM – A nine-year-old boy from Luxembourg drowned in the North Sea between Zeebrugge and Blankenberge.

The boy was at summer camp with an organisation. Bystanders pulled the boy out of the water. Attempts to reanimate him were futile.

The accident took place at an unguarded stretch between the coastal towns of Zeebrugge and Blankenberge. It is unclear why the boy was swimming in this unguarded zone and where the camp leaders were.

The police and judicial officials of Bruges have started an investigation into the tragic incident.
