Belgians are too faithful to their banks

24 February 2005

BRUSSELS – Belgians are far too loyal to their banks, according to a report out on Thursday.

Consumer watchdog Test-Achats said people were choosing their banks too often for emotional or practical reasons, rather than financial ones.

The average Belgian picks his or her bank because it is near to home or work, or because family members have always banked with it.

Test-Achats warned that although the population believed charges are similar from bank to bank, “the studies show that there are significant fee differences”.
