Young woman held over Bastogne fire

17 November 2004

BRUSSELS – A 20-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with a spate of suspected arson attacks in the Belgian city of Bastogne, it was reported on Wednesday.

Neufchateau magistrates said the woman, who is herself from Bastogne, is suspected of starting a fire in a day centre for disabled people in Andage on November 3.

Investigators, who are also questioning other suspects, believe an organised group planned the arson attack.

A minor, who was arrested the day after the fire, has already admitted arson at Andage and confessed to starting another fire at a social welfare centre in Bastogne.

He is being held at a detention centre in Everberg.
