The exhibition brings together the best in press photography from all over the world. The exhibition runs for a month and will close its doors for the last time on 9 June.
Each year World Press Photo comes to Knokke-Heist bringing with it work from the winners of the most prestigious competition for professional press photography.
Top of the bill this year is work by the Swedish photographer Paul Hansen. Paul Hansen’s photograph is a powerful portrayal of life and death in Gaza. The photograph shows a group of men on their way to a mosque carrying two dead boys in their hands.
Work by Belgian photographers is also on display at the exhibition. These include Stephan Vanfleteren’s “People of Mercy” that won a prize in the category Staged Portraits (photo underneath article).
The World Press Photo exhibition is being held at 100 locations the world over. ”
Anne Schaepman of the World Press Photo Foundation told the VRT that the photographs are on display in places that are accessible to a wide cross-section of the general public such as the Scharpoor Cultural Centre in Knokke-Heist.
