BRUSSELS – Belgians knocked back 242 million litres of wine last year, it was revealed on Wednesday.
Despite their reputation for downing beer, 24.2 litres were consumed per inhabitant, putting Belgium second in the list of wine drinkers from non-producing countries.
Denmark is currently at the top of this list.
Overall, red wines account for 41.8 percent of wine drunk in Belgium.
The French speaking south of the country drinks 57 percent of the total of rose, the Dutch speaking north 28.3 percent, and Brussels 14.7 percent, according to a report commissioned by supermarket, Delhaize.
