White powder sparks Schuman metro alert

BRUSSELS – Civil protection teams were called to Schuman metro station in Brussels on Tuesday morning after a passenger found a small amount of white powder near to a telephone cubicle, police have confirmed.

The investigators closed one platform of the station for a short time while they investigated the discovery.

By around 9.10am on Tuesday morning samples of the powder had been taken away for analysis and the metro station was open again as usual.

Schuman is the main metro stop used by employees working at the European Commission and European Parliament. Recently, both institutions have been the target of letter bomb campaigns.
