Website predicts flooding in Flanders

21 June 2007

GHENT – A new website has been set up (www.overstromingsvoorspeller.be) to notify residents in Flanders where flooding could be expected in the coming days.

The Flemish environmental agency has developed the tool, which uses data on precipitation, water levels and other information, to predict how far water will rise and whether flooding could threaten developed (or undeveloped) areas.

If the alarm is sounded, the fire brigade can distribute sandbags as a preventative measure for instance.
