Warning over dangerous Belgian ecstasy pills

BRUSSELS – Belgian public health authorities on Wednesday warned that a particularly dangerous batch of ecstasy tablets had made its way onto the country’s illegal drugs market.

The tablets contain an unusually high dose of MDMA, the active ingredient of ecstasy, and could cause convulsuions, overheating, coma and even death in some users, Belgium’s scientific public health institute (ISSP) said in a statement.

The ISSP said the suspect pills were yellow and carried images of either a flying bird, an apple, a panda or a peace sign.

The pills weigh between 250 and 300 milligrammes, the ISSP added.
