Warmest winter ever

BRUSSELS – An average temperature of 6.6 degrees made the 2006-2007 winter the warmest ever, according to the Royal Meteorological Institute of Belgium. Yesterday was the last day of winter on the meteorological calendar.

The last record was an average winter temperature of 6.1 degrees in 1990. The month of February 2007 was characterised by “an abnormally large” amount of precipitation.

The sun shone for 124 hours over the past winter. An average temperature of 13.9 degrees also made last autumn the warmest ever.
