BRUSSELS – Wallonia has emerged from a new study as a region divided between the haves and the have-nots.
Le Soir reported on Thursday that an investigation by the Wallonian statistics centre IWEPS says the difference between the richest districts and the poorest districts in the French-speaking part of Belgium is accelerating.
It has measured the situation in terms of employment and unemployment rates.
Wallonia’s regional government, composed of a coalition of the PS and CDH parties, want to inject EUR 62.5 million into the poorest areas. However, the Liberal MR party is against the strategy.
