Victory for Anderlecht – tears for Brussels

The reigning Belgian league champions, Anderlecht, on Saturday night won their match against Dender 1 - 0.

It was the second time in a week that Anderlecht beat Dender thanks to a goal from Thomas Chatelle (main photo).

AA Gent achieved the same score against Brussels Bryan Ruiz (photo) making his ninth goal.

Anderlecht – 6th in the league – and AA Gent – fifth – are now ten points adrift of leaders Club Brugge.

On Sunday Club Brugge drew 1 – 1 against Sint-Truiden preventing the West Flemings from extending their lead.

Standard de Liège is second, Cercle Brugge third and Germinal Beerschot fourth.

In other play on Saturday Roeselare only managed a goalless draw against Genk.

Westerlo – Zulte Waregem was 1 – 1, while KV Mechelen beat Charleroi at home 1 – 0.

Mons fared even better thrashing Mouscron 2 – 0.

At the bottom of the Belgian First Division Mons have jumped over Brussels, but are still in the relegation zone.
