BRUSSELS – The unmanned Belgian plane that crashed last week in the Democratic Republic of Congo was shot down and did not suffer a mechanical failure as was originally thought.
The B-Hunter plane crashed while on a test flight not far from Kinshasa Airport. At first, it was thought that a fault in the plane’s software had caused the crash.
However, sources in Kinshasa now say that the plane was shot down, according to Reuters.
The Belgian Air Force has 18 un-manned B-Hunter planes. The B-Hunter is a twin-motor reconnaissance aircraft, able to send back pictures for up to 10 hours at a time.
The plane’s camera is also able to take pictures at night.
