Undocumented children can’t be detained on the way to school

At present police are banned from detaining children at school during ‘school hours’.

The secretary of state has now clarified the concept of school hours at the request of the police services.

Mr Francken told lawmakers that it wasn’t a big problem.

Large numbers of children weren’t being detained on the road to school, but now the matter has been clarified.

Figures from the Asylum Department show a rise in applications for political asylum from people from Guinea in recent months.

Most applicants point to the Ebola crisis in the West African country.

Mr Francken told lawmakers that in the past this argument had not led to people being recognised as political refugees and he had no plans to change the current approach.
