21 December 2004

BRUSSELS – A paedophile who escaped from Tournai last week was caught by Spanish police in Madrid at the weekend.

Andre L was arrested along with another man who escaped last year from the same Social Defence Establishment (EDS) in Tournai.

The two men were captured after a tip off by the Belgian federal police.

Didier Tobola, convicted for a murder in Liege in October 1996, has been on the run since December 2003.

Andre Liziere, 47, has been behind bars in Tournai since 1978 for crimes committed against minors.

The search for the two men was carried out by the Fugitive Active Search Team (FAST) and the judicial services in Namur and Tournai.

European arrest warrants were issued for both fugitives.
