Train strike Tuesday

20 February 2007

BRUSSELS — Walloon train conductors went on strike today, so delays in the train schedule were to be expected, Infrabel spokesperson Frédéric Petit said.

The conductors on strike work on the Brussels – Mechelen – Antwerp line. Three out every ten trains on the line may experience delays, De Standaard writes.

More problems are expected in the Walloon territory. Some of the conductors working on the trains running from Namen and Charleroi have joined the strike, as well as conductors in Ottignies and some of their colleagues in Aarlen and Jemelle.

On the Charleroi – Brussels line, only a quarter of the trains ran on Tuesday.

The strike is a reaction to a recent attack on a conductor from Namen.
