The Belgians have lost €102 billion

Belgium has been hard-hit by the global economic crisis. Altogether the Belgian families saw their savings and investments shrink by €90 billion in 2008 to the lowest level in four years.

Debts, especially mortgage loans, grew by €12 billion. The wealth of all Belgians put together shrank last year by €102 billion to an estimated total of €610 billion. This includes investments and savings minus debts.

The financial wealth of Belgians dropped down by €102 billion in value.  This is a loss of about €57,000 per Belgian.
