Thalys business booming

BRUSSELS – High speed train company Thalys International has reported an upturn in business.

On Wednesday, Thalys – which runs trains from Brussels to destinations like Paris, Amsterdam and Cologne – announced its 2004 turnover was EUR 318 million.

That was 5.6 percent higher than the previous year, which saw turnover and passenger numbers fall.

“This is a record figure due to our new targeted commercial policy,” said Thalys’ French managing director Jean-Michel Dancoisne.

Thalys has also managed to return to the number of passengers it had back in 2002 – 5.95 million passengers, which is 3.9 percent more than 2003.
