BRUSSELS – Two teenagers fiercely attacked a female bus driver on the Virton-Etalle line on Wednesday, the Vers l’Avenir reported today.

Apparently a school student pressed the stop button too late for the bus to stop safely at the bus stop. As a result the bus had to stop somewhat further on.

The girl who wanted to get off shouted insults at the driver and started pulling her hair. She then slammed the woman’s head into the coin operated ticket machine. Another youth got involved, but did not personally strike the driver.

The driver is now on sick leave for five days. The transportation company says it has witnessed a growing number of incidents on buses and says alcohol and drug abuse have contributed to the problem.
