BRUSSELS – Staff at Janssen Pharmaceutica are taking action against the management’s decision to axe 600 of the 5,000 jobs at the company in Belgium.
The strike action is affecting plants at Beerse, Geel and Olen in Antwerp province. In September the Janssen Pharmaceutica management announced a major restructuring operation in Belgium.
The leading Belgian pharmaceutical firm is significantly reducing employment numbers.
It’s especially at the plants in Beerse and Geel that jobs are under threat.
The management drew up a social plan to accompany the operation, but this was rejected by the workforce.
Janssen Pharmaceutica employees are also unhappy with the freezing of their wages for a 3 year period.
Stan Hens of the socialist trades union said that the workforce would remain on strike until the management made concessions.
