Storm sweeps across Belgium

Storm force winds caused material damage at a number of locations across Flanders during Tuesday night. The areas around Lier (Antwerp Province) and Dendermonde (East Flanders) were hardest hit.

The Dendermonde Fire Service received more than 100 calls to deal with trees and walls that had been blown over by the wind.

Meanwhile, in Lier dozens of houses were damaged by the storm. Fortunately nobody was injured.

Several of the damaged houses have since been declared uninhabitable.

A police spokesman told journalists that a solution will be found quickly for those made homeless by the storm.
