BRUSSELS – The man from Assenede who tried to force his girlfriend to miscarry at the beginning of March has been released from police custody.

He and his parents have been charged with attempt to force miscarriage, abduction and assault.

The three have all now been released by the court in Ghent.

The family was unhappy with fact that the son’s girlfriend, a 29-year-old Moroccan woman, had become pregnant by the son. They locked the pregnant woman up in their home in Bassevelde and beat and kicked her. She claims she was also assaulted with an electric cattle prod.

The parents were released unconditionally. The son has been ordered not to seek contact with the victim. He will have to appear in court at a later date.
