Some 20 to 25 pc of the electorate undecided

That’s according to an opinion poll carried out by the commercial TV stations VTM and RTL-TVI and the daily newspapers De Morgen and Le Soir.

Meanwhile, the N-VA and the PS confirm their leading positions in Flanders and Wallonia in a last opinion poll.

The poll took place between 12 and 18 May and included 2,663 respondents: 1,028 in Wallonia, 1,004 in Flanders and 631 in Brussels.

The respondents are said to be representative for the whole population, although the poll has an error margin of maximum 3 percent.

It’s not unusual that many voters are postponing a decision until the very last day, or even until they have arrived in the polling station.

It will confirm the parties’ intentions to keep campaigning until the very last hours.

On Saturday, a ‘Thunderclap’ is planned as several parties are launching a final campaign effort on social media like Twitter.

On the other hand, analysts say the number of undecided voters may be a bit exaggerated, as it is ‘hip and trendy’ to say you haven’t decided yet.

Belgium is one of the few countries where voting is compulsory.

Everyone is expected to make up his or her mind. 

The N-VA and PS reign supreme

The poll gives the Flemish nationalists of N-VA 29.3 percent of the votes, just short of their aim of 30 percent.

However, the N-VA are still enjoying a big lead as the numbers 2, the Christian democrats of CD&V, only have 17.1 percent.

In Wallonia, the socialists of the PS reign supreme with an estimated 28.8 percent of the votes for the party of Prime Minister Elio Di Rupo.

Their big challengers, the liberals of MR with Foreign Minister Didier Reynders, have to be content with 21 percent.
