Snow disrupts morning rush hour
19 March 2007
BRUSSELS – Winter storms caused problems for the morning rush hour in the greater Bruges area today. Hail and snow storms caused several minor collisions.
As of 11 a.m. there were still several kilometres of traffic jams on the E403 between Bruges and Lichtervelde. Federal police report traffic is also moving very slowly on the N31 Bruges-Zeebrugge. Trucks are busy putting down salt in the area.
Snow from last night also caused traffic problems in the province of Luxembourg. An overturned tractor trailer on the E25 blocked two lanes near Houffalize. And another tractor trailer overturned on the E411 in Habay. The two incidents led to delays in traffic to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
There were also several collisions on secondary roads between Florenville and Aarlen. Salt has been spread on the roads since Sunday night in the hope of improving travel conditions. The snow stopped in the province at about 7 a.m.
