Shunned pitbulls face death

5 October 2004

BRUSSELS – Dozens of pitbulls are set to be put down in Belgium because their owners have opted for more aggressive dogs, it was reported on Tuesday.

Kennels in Saint-Trond, Ghent and Maasmechelen are now overflowing with pitbulls – traditionally viewed as some of the most dangerous dogs around – after even more aggressive species began finding their way onto the Belgian market.

As pitbulls generally refuse to share their cages with other dogs, the kennels have warned that the only solution may be to put them down.
