Serbia arrests Belgian suspected of child sex abuse

Serbian police have arrested a Belgian man suspected of sexual crimes involving a minor in his home country, officials said Monday.

The 60-year-old was detained under an “Interpol warrant suspecting him of multiple sex crimes,” said Ivana Obradovic, spokeswoman for the court in the central Serbian city of Kragujevac, where the suspect was arrested on October 7.

She did not elaborate on the nature of the crimes and said the suspect, identified as Eric Lammers, would be remanded in custody until his extradition to Belgium.

A judicial source in Belgium told AFP the case was linked to suspected sexual abuse of a girl under the age of 12.

Lammers, a former member of Belgian neo-Nazi organisation Westland New Post (WNP), was previously suspected of links to the country’s bloodiest series of murders in the 1980s, committed by the so-called “Brabant Killers”.
