Search for Annick’s bike and phone

23 May 2007

HALEN – The search for the bicycle and mobile phone of Annick Van Uytsel has been reopened, according to VRT radio. The girl disappeared after a night out at the end of last month. Her body was found a few days later.

Police are combing the fields that form the border between Limburg and Vlaams-Brabant in the hope of finding the murdered girl’s mobile phone and bicycle.

It has been three weeks since the 18-year-old’s body was found in the Albert canal near Genenbos (Lummen). The items have still not turned up. Nor have the authorities tracked down the perpetrator(s).

The border area between Limburg and Vlaams-Brabant was where the mobile phone signal from Annick’s phone was last picked up.

It is not clear however if there have been new clues that prompted authorities to reopen the search in this area.
