BRUSSELS – The Belgian car industry has been dealt a blow by a 14.9 percent drop in new car sales over the last month.
Overall in the first quarter of the year, the sale of new cars has fallen by 6.1 percent on last year’s figures, report industry bodies Febiac and SPF Mobility and Transport.
The motorbike market has also stagnated in the first few months of this year, falling by 4.7 percent.
“We hope that open days over the next few weekends will cause the market to grow again,” said the Febiac association in a statement.
The global market as a whole remains healthy, with the 51,869 new car registrations remaining above the average of 51,033.
