BRUSSELS – A Belgian court has said it cannot order that the son of self-confessed child killer Michel Fourniret be taken into state care for his own protection, it was revealed on Monday.
The youth court in the Belgian city of Dinant said it was not competent to act on the recommendations of the city’s public prosecutors, who said that Fourniret’s 16 year old son Selim should be taken into care.
The court said that in a strictly legal sense the boy was not in danger.
The boy, who is the son of the confessed killer and his estranged wife Monique Olivier, currently lives with his half-brothers in France.
Forniret has been in police custody in Belgium since June 2003.
He has confessed to murdering eight young women or girls and one man.
