Sabena gone but not forgotten

29 January 2004

BRUSSELS – Fans of defunct Belgian national airline Sabena will next week have the chance to buy a little bit of the much lamented carrier.

The former airline’s trustees and the friends of the Belgian air and space museum are organising a sale of Sabena memorabilia at Zaventem airport, near Brussels, on 7 February.

The organisers say the event poses no threat to the former company’s official archives. They insist that only objects that exist in sufficiently large numbers will go on sale.

Sabena went bust in 2001. Earlier this month one of the former company’s spin-off operations, charter firm Sobelair, was also declared bankrupt.
