Runaway truck in trail of destruction in Belgian town of Spa

Two people were killed when a runaway truck left a trail of destruction in Belgium’s picturesque mineral spring town of Spa after its driver lost control of the vehicle Tuesday.

A bakery shop, a wall and village house were all smashed after the truck swerved from side to side down a dangerously steep road to wind up crashing headlong into a house where it burst into flames and set fire to the building.

“There are two people dead, including the driver,” Paul Mathy, the deputy mayor of the mineral spring town of Spa, told the RTL-TV1 television network. A third person was seriously hurt.

The narrow road has been banned to heavy vehicles over seven tonnes after similar accidents previously, the last in 1986 having left three people dead.
