BRUSSELS — Brussels’ Dutch-language Free University has opened a new centre for research into sleeping disorders at its Etterbeek campus.
The centre will look at how factors such as noise, light and temperature fluctuations affect sleeping patterns.
It will be the first centre in Belgium to analyse how such factors influence people’s ability to get a good night’s sleep.
Scientists will analyse heart rates, body temperatures and brain activity while people sleep in order to learn more about why some of us have trouble nodding off.
The university’s spokeperson, Ellen Devalck, told journalists that the aim is to create an optimal environment for people to sleep in.
The university already had a laboratory for research into sleeping disorders before deciding to expand into a fully-fledged research centre.
