BRUSSELS – A record number of car burglaries was recorded in Brussels in 2006, but that number will most likely be exceeded in a number of Brussels police districts this year.
La Dernière Heure reported this on Wednesday. 1,611 car burglaries have been reported in the police district West (Molenbeek, Jette, Ganshoren, Koekelberg, Sint-Agatha-Berchem) in the first half of 2007, compared to 3,340 for the whole of 2006 and 2,580 for the whole of 2005.
1,064 incidents have already been reported this year so far in the Montgomery district (Etterbeek, Sint-Pieters-Wolume, Sint-Lambrechts-Woluwe), 671 of which were actual burglaries and 393 attempted burglaries. Last year a total of 1,691 incidents were reported, including 534 attempts.
2,852 car burglaries were reported in the Zuid district (Anderlecht, Sint-Gillis, Vorst) between 1 January 2007 and 30 June, compared to 3,925 in 2006.
