Prostate and breast cancer most prevalent in Belgium

1 September 2008

BELGIUM — The Foundation against Cancer’s annual report has revealed that prostate and breast cancer are the most common forms of cancer in Belgium.

Prostate cancer is the most common form of cancer among men, followed by lung cancer and bowl cancer.

Breast cancer still poses the greatest threat to women, followed by bowl cancer and lung cancer.

Researchers also reported that smoking is still the great single preventable cause of death in Belgium, despite a fall in tobacco sales in recent years.

In 2007, the number of people that smoke at least one cigarette a day fell for the first time in five years.
