Power expensive in Belgium

18 May 2007

BRUSSELS – Electricity in Belgium costs more than in most other countries, according to a study from NUS Consulting, the worldwide leader in monitoring energy and telecommunications costs.

The study attributes the high price to the lack of competition on the Belgian market. An industrial customer pays EUR 0.85 per kilowatt hour.

That is less than in Italy (EUR 1.17) and the Netherlands (EUR 0.94) but more than in countries like Finland (EUR 0.53), France (EUR 0.64), the US (EUR 0.69), Spain (EUR 0.77) and Great Britain (EUR 0.83).
