Late on Monday afternoon Ramy Baron told the official receivers trying to save Sobelair that he would not bid for the company in the current circumstances.

“Too many things are unclear at the moment, especially concerning the company’s customers,” Baron said.

The entrepreneur, who is well known in Belgian business circles, had been seen as a prime candidate for taking over the defunct carrier.

But the receivers insisted that they are still in discussions with at least one other possible buyer. They remained tight-lipped about the identity of the firm or individual saying only that it or they were “foreign”.

Aviation experts have suggested recently that Italy’s Azzura Air and Euralair from Hungary are both interested in getting their hands on Sobelair.
